Call for Papers: Journal of Kinesiology & Wellness (JKW) – 2026 Issue
The Journal of Kinesiology & Wellness (JKW) is an anonymous peer‑reviewed online journal that covers issues in physical education, physical activity and health promotion, wellness, biomechanics, motor behavior, exercise physiology, sport, and dance. JKW is the peer‑reviewed publication of the Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness (WSKW).
JKW does not charge a publication fee and operates under an open‑access policy, meaning all articles are freely available online for anyone to read, download, and share. The journal aims to promote scholarly communication and disseminate high‑quality knowledge to the academic community and the public.
Accepted papers are published on a rolling basis, and the full volume is compiled and published annually in January. The full volume includes the WSKW Chronicles, which feature post‑conference proceedings, such as conference abstracts.
Scope and Topics
JKW welcomes submissions across a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to:
- Exercise Science
- Physical Education
- Biomechanics
- Motor Behavior
- Health Promotion
- Movement Studies
- Wellness and Lifestyle
- Sport and Physical Activity
- Dance
We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and innovative perspectives that contribute to the scholarly dialogue in these areas.
Manuscript Sections
Accepted manuscripts are published under the following sections:
- Experimental & Quantitative Research: consists of scholarly papers based on original quantitative research (experimental or observational).
- Qualitative & Mixed-Methods Research: consists of scholarly papers using qualitative or mixed‑methods approaches.
- Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses: includes systematic reviews (with or without meta‑analysis) and related evidence syntheses.
- Student-Led Research: reserved for scholarly papers, of any of the above types, in which a student (undergraduate or graduate) is the lead author.
- John Massengale Paper: an exclusive publication written by a distinguished scholar. Contact the Editor‑in‑Chief to suggest an author or nominate yourself.
- WSKW Chronicles: conference materials and proceedings.
Submission Guidelines
JKW accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Accepted papers are published online shortly after acceptance, with full volumes compiled and published annually in January.
General Requirements:
- Originality: Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
- Formatting: Manuscripts should adhere to the current edition of APA style and be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
- Length: Manuscripts should generally not exceed 15 pages (excluding references, cover page, and abstract).
- Abstract: An abstract of up to 250 words must accompany the submission.
- Ethical Standards: Research involving human or animal subjects must include appropriate ethical approval documentation.
Submission Components:
- Cover Page: Including title, author(s) names and affiliations, contact information, funding sources, acknowledgments, conflict of interest statements, and a declaration of originality.
- Manuscript: Including title (without author names), abstract, main text with appropriate headings, and references.

Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo a rigorous blind peer‑review process. Manuscripts are evaluated based on originality, clarity of purpose, methodological rigor, data analysis, conclusions, writing quality, adherence to APA style, and the relevance of tables and figures.
